About This Course
In this course, you will learn about Internet Exchanges (IX), a largely unknown but essential
part of the Internet infrastructure that keeps the world as you know it today connected and
running.
Each IX connects the networks of Internet service providers, digital application and content
providers, and all manner of digital service providers – like cloud services, payment services,
and retail – to facilitate the exchange of data traffic and accelerate, improve and secure digital
communications.
This course will provide participants with an understanding of the key concepts of what an
Internet exchange (IX) is, its role in Internet data traffic, and its benefits for the growth of
digital economies and enterprises.

Miquel Oliver is Full Professor of Telecommunications Engineering at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona. He has many years of experience in the Internet sector from both the technical and business sides. Professor Oliver directs the "DE-CIX-UPF Business Chair in Internet Traffic Exchange Academy", a project created in 2021 of which the Interconnection Academy is part.

DE-CIX and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona have joined forces to launch a
global Interconnection Academy.
